Elastic Tape for Garments: Applications and Buying Considerations
Garment elastic is used wherever a product needs to stretch and hold its shape — waistbands, cuffs, elasticated seams and comfort-wear panels. Choosing the right construction and specification affects both comfort and how the elastic performs after repeated wear and washing.
Woven vs. knitted elastic
- Woven elastic — a firmer, more structured construction. Commonly used for waistbands, cuffs and elasticated seams where a bit more rigidity is wanted. See Woven Garment Elastic.
- Knitted elastic — softer and more flexible against the skin, generally preferred for innerwear, lingerie and other comfort-wear applications. See Knitted Garment Elastic.
A third construction, braided elastic, also exists in the wider market (narrower, rounder profile, often used for drawcords) — it isn't currently part of Goyal Lining's published catalogue.
Common applications
Garment manufacturing broadly, innerwear and lingerie (favouring knitted, skin-contact elastic), and sportswear (favouring elastic with strong stretch-and-recovery for waistbands) are the main application groups. See Applications for the full list of where Goyal Lining's products are used.
What to specify before ordering
- Width — the finished elastic width your construction calls for.
- Colour — matched to the garment or left raw/undyed depending on the product.
- Stretch and recovery — how far the elastic extends and how well it returns to its original length — important for anything worn close to the body or washed repeatedly.
- Quantity and unit — typically ordered by length (metres) or by roll.
Width, colour and other specifications for Goyal Lining's elastic products are confirmed per order rather than fixed on the product page — request a quote with your requirement.
